Detyens Shipyard - Ship Repair and Refurbishment FacilityDetyens Shipyard is a full service ship repair facility that is located in Charleston, SC. Established in 1962; Detyens has earned a reputation for flexibility, excellent production capabilities and low-cost work. The Port of Charleston is convenient to the major US East Coast, US Gulf Coast and Western Caribbean trade routes. This has helped it rapidly grow into the United States fourth largest port. Detyens Shipyards' capabilities and customer base have grown along with those of the port. SHIP REFURBISHMENT FACILITYDetyens Shipyards understands the unique challenges with ship refurbishment. We have the only facility designed to handle the ship, crew and contractors. Detyens Shipyards is a unified group of full-service shipyards, each covering a slightly different segment of the repair market. Our major source of work and income is through commercial ship repair, with some naval repair and a growing Foreign Military Sales (FMS) group. We have one of the largest ship repair oriented machine shops on the eastern seaboard of the Americas. With our central location on the US East Coast shipping lanes and the easy access into and out of our yards, ships are in and out quickly with either planned or emergency repairs. ABOUT DETYENS SHIPYARDS Detyens Shipyards main facility is located on the site of the former Charleston Naval Shipyard, along the Cooper River. In addition to three dry docks with a capacity of up to 229m x 33.5m, the facility offers over 2,100m of deep water pier space, state-of-the-art trade shops, ten 56t gantry cranes, three 100t large floating cranes and a strong sub-contractor base to support shipyard labor. It is a non-union yard with excellent weather year round. We routinely repair or convert commercial ships traveling the US East Coast, Caribbean and US Gulf waters.
