The Boston Beer Company - Samuel Adams – America's World Class Beer

The Boston Beer Company was founded in 1984 to brew the legendary Samuel Adams Boston Lager.

With small local breweries closing all over the country, rich, flavorful beers and traditional brewing methods had disappeared. The industry's mega-breweries were selling mass-produced, lighter beer.

Jim Koch, the country's only sixth generation brewer, founded the company by shaking the family tree, and out fell old Louis Koch's original recipe for better beer. Jim loved to think about his great-great grandfather's St. Louis brewery, and the great beer, Louis Koch Lager, that was made there. Brewing better beer seemed like an idea whose time had come.

We spare no expense, and we use only the highest quality, all natural ingredients in all of our beers. We make our beer using the four traditional ingredients that give real beer its great taste - malted barley, hops, yeast and water. Flavor characteristics: full-flavored and complex. Malty sweetness balanced with distinct citrus, pine and spicy notes. A strong, smooth finish and mouthfeel.

SAMUEL ADAMS BOSTON ALE

We first brewed this classic American ale to celebrate the opening of our Boston brewery. Originating over a century ago, stock ales are aged carefully in cool rooms called 'stock cellars'. This beer is smoother than most ales and richer than most lagers with a round, robust taste.

Flavor characteristics: bright, citrus aromas from the traditional English hops and a full-bodied sweetness. Fruit and ester notes from the ale fermentation with a round, smooth finish.

SAM ADAMS LIGHT

Sam Adams Light is not a lighter version of our Samuel Adams Boston Lager but rather the culmination of more than two years of experimentation and brewing trials. It proved to be worth the wait.

Brewed using only the finest two-row malted barley and Bavarian Noble hops, Sam Adams Light has a smooth, complex roasted malt character that is superbly balanced with the subtle citrus fruit notes of the Noble hops. Sam Adams Light finishes crisp and smooth without any lingering bitterness, leaving you yearning for another sip.

Flavor characteristics: a smooth, rich, and complex malt character that ranges from roasty to sweet. A subtle hop note reminiscent of mango and apricot.
