Capacity and flexibility of business mobility significantly enhanced

NEC Philips Unified Solutions (NEC Philips) today announced a new software version for its successful business mobility IP DECT. This new software significantly extends the capacity and functionality of this wireless IP telephony solution, now capable of supporting up to 750 access points and offering powerful central directory functionality.

CAPACITY EXPANSION

With Release 4.0 software, IP DECT installations can be expanded to include 750 access points, all of which act as one integrated system. This allows large organizations and institutions, such as universities and hospitals, to make all staff mobile. The installation will behave as one integrated and centrally managed system that guarantees connectivity, seamless handover and quality of service to users wherever they are.

CENTRAL DIRECTORY

The new software also offers powerful central directory functionality, enabling users to browse from their DECT handset through the company telephone book and search for names. Presented information is always up-to-date and identical to the directory information used elsewhere in the organization by applications such as the Business ConneCT communications portal.

IP DECT and SIP DECT – proven concepts with maximum flexibility With many companies switching over to a Voice over IP network, NEC Philips' Business Mobility IP DECT is a unique wireless solution that combines the benefits of IP telephony with the qualities and facilities of DECT technology. This proven concept serves several hundreds of customers and thousands of end-users worldwide.

Its secure air interface provides perfect voice quality, seamless handover and supports short messaging. Companies are offered maximum flexibility, as most standard DECT (GAP) compatible handsets can be used, and the SIP protocol allows the wireless system to be integrated with PBX systems supporting SIP.

With the access points connecting directly to the LAN, dedicated cabling between radio base stations and the PBX is no longer necessary. Instead, the DECT access points make use of a single converged voice and data network. Providing wireless telephony within a multi-site business or campus environment involves simply installing DECT access points at the remote locations without the need of additional remote equipment.
